Lady of the Heavens – Egg tempera with 23.75 ct gold leaf on wood
Egg tempera with 23.75 ct gold leaf on wood
Using egg tempera to write icons is something that Linda has recently explored. She was looking at how she could add colour to her work using different media including oils, pastels and egg tempera in tandem with exploring new ideas of using imagery and symbols to represent mankind’s connection to spirituality.
With regard to spirituality, the ‘Lady of the Heavens’ was made for a local church and shows references to the local area together with an image of the church. The “Shepherd and the Cowherd’ references the connections between Christ and Krishna.
Other recent work references history, as in the ‘Canterbury Tales” and ‘Harriet Grote’. Linda read the Canterbury Tales by Chaucer and researched how life would have been at the time, including how Canterbury Cathedral might have looked during the late 14th century (the time when the book was written), the clothes worn by the characters and the type of horses each character might have rode.
Harriet Grote was the founder of the Society of Female Artists (SFA), which has been renamed twice, to the Society of Lady Artists (SLA) and is now known as the Society of Women Artists (SWA), of which Linda is the current President. It was whilst researching the societies history, that Linda come across an image of Mrs. Grote and the portrait is based on this.
Linda is currently in the second year of a three year course under the guidance of Peter Murphy. Here are a few examples of previous work …..
