Dr. Linda Smith is an award winning figurative artist based in Kent. Most recently receiving the Princess Michael of Kent award at the 2026 annual exhibition of the Society of Women Artists (SWA) at the Mall Galleries, London. Her work features endangered species, architecture, icons and portraiture. Linda is represented by the Natasha Pearl Gallery, Bekesbourne, Kent, where her work can be purchased.
Her education includes a PhD in Chemistry, science teacher training, PGCE’s in Fine Art Glass and Architectural Glass and Icon Painting. Linda has taught glass art at Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), exhibited widely, including the Menier Factory, The Painter-Stainers’ Company, Chatham Dockyard, Linden Hall Studio and with several different art societies at the Mall Galleries. Linda has won many awards, one being the Great Art Award from the SWA, of which she has been a council member for many years and a past President.
As well as painting on glass, Linda uses a variety of materials including graphite, ink, egg tempera and gold leaf. Her work features historical buildings; iconography; the animal kingdom, in particular, how humans negatively impact on their wellbeing and figurative portraiture, where Linda aims to capture not just the physical likeness of a person, but also their inner qualities, emotions and stories.
